Explorer Yellow Case Recall Notice - Effective 05/01/04
This recall applies to the bright yellow cases with the molded connector pad on the left side. The recall does not apply to the safety yellow cases or the hot yellow cases without the connector pad. The case color is the same color as the one used in the drive over test. The molding vendor used a case material and/or coloring agent that now after a year appears to be developing cracks. This applies to Explorer dive computers Model's M/O and PPO2 Monitors. At this time yellow cases are not available and we are replacing them with black or gray. There were approximately 100 HS Explorers in use to which this applies. If you have questions about your Explorer, please contact us.
Please return your Explorer to us IMMEDIATELY so that we can replace the case. The address information is listed below. Thank you for your patience.
Explorer Recall Notice - Effective 08/12/02
Case Replacement and Upgrade to Reduced Gradient Bubble Model (RGBM) - $125.00.
The case replacement deadline was 30 November 2002.
The recall has been in effect for over 22 months. Any flooded Explorer returned will be repaired at the owners expense. (The recall applies to all Explorers shipped prior to September 2002. The lens screws will be button head hex socket, not Phillips head as used in the new design.)
Please return your Explorer to us so that we can replace the case. All Explorers are being recalled at this time to replace the cases.
On 07/22/02 we were informed by our case manufacturer that there is a problem with the cases and they will all have to be replaced. The problem is a chemical reaction between the brass lens screw insert and the case material. The insert is generating some chemical/gas which is reacting with the case material and causing the case to start to crack around the insert. Over time this crack can migrate to the main electronics cavity, switch cavity or battery cavity. Once the crack process starts it is only a matter of time to leakage/flood. As a result we are having new cases fabricated with Stainless Steel inserts and will replace all existing units. The new cases should be ready in 2-3 weeks. We have no work around solution except replacement of the cases. HydroSpace Engineering, Inc. apologizes for the inconvenience..
Your Explorer will be returned at a $5.00 charge by US Post Priority Mail, Delivery Confirmation in the U.S. and Priority Mail, Registered $20.00 to all other countries. If you want your Explorer returned via private courier please enclose sufficient funds to cover the shipping costs.
Our goal was to have all Explorers updated by the end of November 2002. Case replacement will be processed on a first in/first out basis and a turn around time of approximately 3 weeks now that the new cases have arrived.
